Led by Principal Investigator Dr. Christopher C. Thompson, MD, MS, FACG, FASGE, the Developmental Endoscopy's area of excellence is in clinical expertise and innovation.

The lab focuses on advanced endoscopy as it applies to post-surgical complications, bariatric endoscopy, reflux, pancreatic disease, and NOTES (Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery).

The lab's research involves active bench and large animal laboratories that focus on device development and industry partnering, and has resulted in several patent applications, the invention of two endoscopic suturing procedures that have gone on to multicenter clinical trials, and numerous publications.
